Letter From the Editor
By Katie Hajenius
I’m not really about events merely for the sake of events. They
need to have a point, they need to aid in the overall vision, not
be an end in and of themselves. What I think is possibly more
significant is what happens after the event. How are we actually
changed? Do we live differently? This, to me, is ultimately what
the big event has got to be about.
So, we’re currently coming off the big event of TWMS.
Wasn’t that a historical moment for us all? As a movement
and generation in this time in history it was paramount. It
needed to happen. I’m so grateful to have been a part and
have been able to experience it.
OK, so what now? Do we just wait for three more years until
the next one? Yes and no. Yes, because we’re already
gearing up for it. No, because that’s not the end-all in the
big picture, but rather it provides a bridge that will aid in
advancing students to the next level.
In this edition of the Expeditions magazine, we are emphasizing
the five-year commitment—partnering strategically and deliberately
with AGWM around the world—making investments in specific
regions, areas or countries for a longer-term commitment,
honing in on the same place year after year in order to see our
strategic efforts materialize into lasting fruit. No more hit-andmiss
or random efforts … we want to penetrate areas like lasers
with God’s sacrificial love and the message of reconciliation.
So, we’re not offering multitudes of missions opportunities.
We are focusing on a few. We are also highlighting
campuses and individuals who have caught this vision
and who have lived it. We think it is important to give
you workable ideas and practical tools to help you develop
your mission teams. We wanted to highlight being
missional as opposed to the event of “missions.” This is
why we’ve included an article from someone who is living
it in the marketplace as well.
Get ready Chi Alpha, we’re launching out.
