North Africa

Do you want a ministry challenge? Do you need a change from the predictable? What would our ministry look like if we couldn't use a sound system and PowerPoint? What would our ministry look like if we couldn't use video or drama? What would our ministry look like without a special band? It would be more simplistic and more dependent on Jesus and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It would probably be similar to the ministry of Jesus to the woman at the well (John 4: 1-30).

Historically, North Africa embraced Christianity but now embraces Islam. Christianity came to Western North Africa from Rome and grew more rapidly in this province of the Roman Empire than in any other Western province. It was firmly established in Carthage and other Tunisian towns by the third century.

Tertullian was born in Carthage, Tunisa in 150 A.D. and Augustine was born in North Africa in 354 A.D. Augustine died in what is today Algeria in 430 A.D. North Africa contributed to and has strong roots in the Church.

In the 7th century A.D., neither the Church nor the ruling Byzantine government were able to withstand the Islamic insurgents into North Africa. Within 100 years the Christian church almost completely died and to this day it is still minimal in size, but God has a plan!

Will you bring a group of 4-6 students from your campus to North Africa for 14 days this summer or consider giving a year or two to this great cause?
